History

Haury Plumbing and Heating Inc., has been a true fixture in the plumbing and heating industry for this community for many years. In April 1945, Edward Haury bought Shorty Parrent Plumbing & Heating from Dave Davenport and rented the back shed at 505 East Broadway in Sparta, IL.  He ran Haury Plumbing while attending United Trade School in Chicago.  Ed’s business quickly grew and he recruited Val Smith from Chicago to come to Sparta to help run the business and named it Haury & Smith Plumbing & Heating and relocated to the Jim Morrison building next to Sparta Motor Building on East Broadway and was there for six years.  The business then moved to the former Brown Hardware & Electric Company building at 162 West Broadway and changed the name to Haury Plumbing & Heating and Hardware. Ed’s son, Jim Haury, ran the plumbing and Ed’s son-in-law, Paul Oathout, ran the hardware which eventually changed to Paul’s True Value.

Ed retired in 1973, Jim took control and relocated the business to 110 West 4th Street, Sparta, IL and changed the name to it’s currently title, Haury Plumbing & Heating, INC.  Jim also expanded to Chester, IL and created Chester Plumbing & Heating, INC with Herman Gross.

Haury Plumbing & Heating moved to it’s currently location, 1816 North Market Street, Sparta, IL, in 1999.  Jim’s two sons, Chris and Brad, joined to continue the legacy while there mother, Carol, decided to retire when the grandkids were born.  Jim retired in 2018 and Brad became the President which enable the status of Veteran Owned Small Business.
